Ds Awareness Month: Payton

Join us in October for Down Syndrome Awareness Month as families from our DSDN Birth support group share,
what they wish others knew about their child with Down syndrome.
Our daughter Payton came fast, within 6 hours of my water breaking and 4 pushes later she was here! She was beautiful! She is our first child! We couldn’t have felt more blessed. Little did we know she had bigger plans for us. Within 3 hours of her birth, she became blue in the lips and was rushed to the NICU.
That’s when we heard the famous 7 words. “We think she may have Down syndrome.” Our hearts were shattered with disbelieve! How could have this have happened? We knew nothing about Down syndrome, let alone having a baby! We knew that we were meant to have her in our lives and that God would never put us through anything we couldn’t handle.
So that’s what we have done. I have done everything I can, to be the best mom to her and for her! She’s been the biggest blessing to us and everyone around her. She’s such a sweet, sassy, smiley ball of energy! She’s everything I ever imagined when I found out I was having a daughter. Here we are 15 months into our journey and I couldn’t imagine her any differently. Extra chromosome and all! I want people to know that there is no reason to fear. This is just a different scenic route that is longer than the original route. All the same beautiful views that still leads to the same destination.
We truly are The Lucky Few!
