Our daughter and first child was born 22 years and 2 months ago. She was born 2 weeks early and very sick, we almost lost her. We were thrown into the world of Down syndrome with no warning!  All the grief began. All the whys, hows and what’s this and that.

Fast forward to December 2016, we had finished our home study for another child, in Eastern Europe. Her adoption fell through. Our son was available and we were alerted to his status.

Our experiences with our daughter had already prepared us for the Down sydrome diagnosis and we were led to start his adoption. Twenty five months, 1 week and a day ago, we busted him out of the less than desirable place he had called ‘home’.

He had been left at the hospital at 9 days of age, due to him having Down sydrome. He was 2 weeks shy of his 18th birthday, when we flew home. Eight to ten months after we flew home, he was pretty well adjusted. All checked out by doctors, he was healthy as a horse.

He enjoys tricycle rides, hikes, swimming, the trampoline and burgers & fries!  His four siblings adore him. He is a cherished member of our family. We would adopt all over again.
